Most homeowners don't realise they need a rewire until something goes wrong. Outdated or overloaded wiring is a genuine safety risk, and it quietly limits how you use your home — not enough sockets, lights that won't dim properly, circuits tripping every time the kettle and the oven are on together.

The questions I get asked about rewires
How long does a full house rewire take?
For a typical three-bedroom home, allow around five to ten working days depending on the size of the property, how much access there is under floors and in the loft, and whether you want extra sockets, lighting or data adding while the floors are up. I'll give you a realistic timescale in writing with the quote rather than a best-case guess.
Do I need to move out during a rewire?
Not usually. Most people stay put and I work room by room, keeping power and lighting on where I can. If the house is empty it's quicker and tidier, but it isn't a requirement. I'll talk you through how it would work in your home before we start.
Do I need a full rewire or just a partial one?
It depends on the condition of the existing wiring. Sometimes the circuits are sound and only the consumer unit and a few circuits need attention, which is far less disruptive and less expensive. I'll inspect and test before quoting so you're spending money where it's actually needed.
How much does a rewire cost?
It comes down to the size of the property, the number of circuits, how many sockets and lights you want, and how easy the access is. That's why I quote in writing after seeing the job rather than quoting over the phone. Will the rewire be certified and notified?
Yes. Every rewire is carried out to BS 7671, tested, and issued with an Electrical Installation Certificate, and it's notified to Building Control through my NICEIC Approved Contractor registration. You get the paperwork you need for selling, letting or insuring the property.
How much mess does a rewire make?
There's chasing and lifting of floorboards involved, so there's no such thing as a completely mess-free rewire. What I can promise is dust sheets down, cables run neatly, chases cut properly, and the place cleared up at the end of every day rather than left for you to live around.
Do you make good the plaster afterwards?
I fill and make good the chases and any holes so the walls are ready for decorating. Full plastering and decorating isn't included as standard, but I'll tell you up front exactly what's left to do so there are no surprises when the job's finished.
Is the rewire inspection really free?
Yes. I'll come and look at what you've got, test where needed, and tell you honestly whether it needs doing now, whether a partial rewire would do, or whether it can safely wait. Free, no obligation, and no pressure to book anything on the day.
