What is a full rewire?

During a full rewire the existing electrical installations in your home, including wiring, sockets, switches and light fittings will be removed or decommissioned and new ones will be installed in their place.

Signs your property may need a rewire

Properties that haven’t been rewired for around 30 years may require a rewire to bring the property in line with current industry regulations.

There are a number of tell-tale signs to look out for which might actually indicate that Walton-on-Thames area property is due a full rewire. We advise our customers to look out for signs such as:

What is an EICR?

An EICR or electrical installation condition report is a report following on from a thorough inspection of all electrical aspects of your property.

As well as identifying any faults or risks leading to electric shocks or electrical fires, the report is also used to highlight any wiring that does not meet current electrical wiring regulations, guidance set by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET)
If you’re a homeowner in Walton-on-Thames Surrey, it is recommended that this type of inspection is carried out every 10 years. If however you’re a landlord or property agent, a valid EICR is required every 5 years.

What happens during a rewire?

The majority of full rewire projects we undertake are carried out across two stages known as first fix and second fix. 

After an initial visit to your property to plan the placement of your new lighting, sockets and switches, our qualified electricians will start the full rewire process by removing old and faulty wiring and the old accessories such as light switches.

New cabling is added in the walls and under floors. At this point we will install the back boxes for electrical accessories in their pre-planned locations. Your new consumer unit will also be installed. This is the first fix stage. 

The second stage takes place once all old wiring has been replaced with new wiring. We focus on components such as the switches, plug faces and sockets during the second fix. Your new consumer unit will be commissioned and the installation will be tested. Once we are satisfied everything is working correctly we will sign off the works and then the redecorating can begin.
